YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

DOES ST MARY'S HAVE A SUNDAY SCHOOL?
Yes, and very good it is too!
Visit our
SUNDAY SCHOOL page...
We also have creche provision for childern who become anxious during the service
in a nicely heated hall.
Nothing is missed because the service
is relayed over speakers.

WHAT SORT OF CHURCH IS ST MARY'S?
We are Evangelical and 'low church' with a mixed congregation from all sorts of
church traditions from home and abroad.
Roger's theology is lively, Reformed and Calvinistic.

You really must ask him what that means!

ARE THE VICAR'S SERMONS/TALKS DURING CHURCH SERVICES LONG AND BORING?
Of course not!
Roger's gospel talks are
always helpful, accessible and
straightforward to follow.
His aim is to help us to live our Christian lives by explaining the Christian faith from
the Old and New Testaments.
Roger is not afraid of considering harsh and raw Bible stories or about helping us to consider uncomfortable subjects such as injustice,
unfairness and
world-wide suffering past and present.
Roger includes humour when appropriate.
We laugh a lot at St Mary's Church.

CAN I HAVE MY CHILD BAPTISED AT
ST MARY'S CHURCH?
We welcome inquiries about baptism.
We are a church that likes to say 'yes'.
We have an uncomplicated approach to the service which is often called 'Christening' and
is free of charge.
Parents with their children are invited to
regularly attend Sunday services as
part of the preparation.
Roger, our vicar, will be very pleased to discuss the significance of the service and arrange the
date and time for baptism.
We are bold to make the claim that we are
good at baptism services at St Mary's.

HOW SUITABLE IS
ST MARY'S CHURCH FOR OUR WEDDING?
We are also good at marriage services at St Mary's
and the church is one of the gems of the Borough of Wandsworth - a wonderful setting for a wedding.
We have a long aisle, tidy grounds, plenty of space and a well kept building awaiting
couples and their guests.
We also have something wonderful
to share with couples:
God's blessing for their future life together.

HOW DO WE GO ABOUT ARRANGING OUR WEDDING AT ST MARY'S CHURCH?
New Church of England legislation welcomes engaged couples to be married in a church
'which has special significance for them'.
Roger will be pleased to meet with couples
in order to clarify this new opportunity.
Those who have been divorced and
wish to remarry may
privately discuss their situation with Roger.
We look forward to welcoming couples into the local worshipping community in order to offer our friendship and support.

WHAT IS 'BIBLICAL STORYTELLING' WHICH TAKES PLACE DURING
THE MORNING SERVICE?
Dramatic and improvised biblical storytelling told with children during the Morning Service
(2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays)
is unique because our method is very close to
the way stories were told in the ancient past.
The Bible originated with God-inspired storytellers who had taken part in what
happened or
had seen the actual events unfold.
Stories were carefully collected, kept safe and written-up in their final form as
they appear in our Bibles.
Roger unfolds a biblical story during the Morning Service in the role of a 'storyteller' as he invites children to inhabit biblical characters.
There are no rehearsals,
no costumes,
no lines to learn.
Just the story.

DO YOU HAVE A PROGRAMME FOR TEENAGERS?
We are unsure at the moment how to
work realistically with teenagers.
We acknowledge this to be a specialist area.
We
could do with some assistance from
experienced Christian youth leaders.

Help!

WHAT WAS 'YOU MATTER!' ALL ABOUT?
'You matter!' was our parish mission theme
during 2007-2009.
We simply made the case that
despite what happens in the world around us,
everyone matters.
The same theme is revisited in
Sunday services from time to time.
