FAQ
ARE THE VICAR'S SERMONS LONG AND BORING? Of course not! Roger's sermons are always helpful, accessible and straighforward to follow. His aim is to help the congregation to live their Christian lives by explaining the Christian faith from the Old and New Testaments. Roger is not afraid of considering the harsh and raw Bible stories or of talking about uncomfortable subjects such as injustice, unfairness and world-wide suffering. Roger's preaching is not all doom and gloom, he also includes a lot of humour! We laugh a lot at St Mary's Church.
CAN I HAVE MY CHILD BAPTISED AT ST MARY'S CHURCH? We welcome inquiries about baptism. We are a church that likes to say 'yes'. We have an uncomplicated approach to the service which is often called 'Christening' and is free of charge. Parents with their children are invited to regularly attend Sunday services as part of their preparation. Roger, our vicar, will be very pleased to discuss the significance of the service and arrange the date and time for baptism. We are bold to make the claim that we are good at baptism services at St Mary's.

HOW SUITABLE IS ST MARY'S CHURCH FOR OUR WEDDING? We are also good at marriage services at St Mary's and the church is one of the gems of the Borough of Wandsworth - a wonderful setting for a wedding. We have a long aisle, tidy grounds, plenty of space and a well kept building awaiting couples and their guests. We also have something wonderful to share with couples: God's blessing for their future lives together.
HOW DO WE GO ABOUT ARRANGING OUR WEDDING AT ST MARY'S CHURCH? New Church of England legislation welcomes engaged couples to be married in a church 'which has special significance for them'. Roger will be pleased to meet with couples in order to clarify this new opportunity. Those who have been divorced and wish to remarry may privately discuss their situation with Roger. We look forward to welcoming couples into the local worshipping community in order to offer our friendship and support.
WHAT IS 'YOU MATTER!' ALL ABOUT? 'You matter!' is the theme of our parish mission during 2007 and 2008. We are simply making the case that despite what happens in the world around us, we all matter. Look out for our colourful '77 bus' leaflet.
WHAT IS 'BIBLICAL STORYTELLING' WHICH TAKES PLACE DURING THE MORNING SERVICE ON SUNDAYS AT 10.30am? Dramatic and improvised biblical storytelling told with children during the Morning Service (2nd and 4th Sundays) is unique because our method is very close to the way stories were told in the ancient past. Visit the Sunday Morning Service at 10.30am to find out. The Bible originated with storytellers who had taken part in what happened or had seen the actual events unfold. Stories were carefully collected, kept safe and written-up in their final form as they appear in our Bibles.
DOES ST MARY'S HAVE A SUNDAY SCHOOL? Yes. Click on our Sunday School page...
DO YOU HAVE A PROGRAMME FOR TEENAGERS? We are unsure at the moment how to work realistically with teenagers. We acknowledge this to be a specialist area. We could do with some assistance from experienced Christian youth leaders. Help!
